Aircraft Facts
Many of the aircraft in the CAF fleet are very rare, including the only flying example of the Boeing B-29 Superfortress (FIFI), Curtiss SB2C Helldiver and the Bell P-39 Airacobra fighter.
Others – such as the Consolidated B-24A Liberator (Ol’ 927), Bell P-63 Kingcobra fighter, Douglas SBD Dauntless and North American P-51D Mustang (Red Nose) – are one of only two or three of that type still flying today.
Rare Axis aircraft operated by the CAF include an original Japanese Mitsubishi A6M3 "Zero" carrier-based fighter and a German Ju-52. These aircraft are all flown regularly in support of the CAF mission.
At any given time, about 100 of CAF aircraft are in flying condition. Restoration and maintenance of these fifty-plus year old airplanes is always ongoing.
