The Passing of a Legend
Last week we said goodbye to Dawn Seymour, who passed peacefully in her home overlooking Canandaigua Lake, New York. Seymour, a native of Rochester, New York, was 100 years old, and one of just a handful of Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) who were trained to fly the B-17 Flying Fortress during World War II, making her a legend in her own right.
Seymour was an incredible woman, passionate about sharing the WASP story with young people, and could often be seen at airshows around the North East doing exactly that. Last year at EAA AirVenture she joined the Commemo...
Challenge Coin History and Rules of the Coin
by Col. Marty R. Huvar
The History of the Challenge Coin
* During World War I, American volunteers from all parts of the country filled the newly formed flying squadrons in Europe. Some were wealthy scions attending colleges such as Yale and Harvard who quit in mid-term to join the war. In one squadron, a wealthy lieutenant ordered medallions struck in solid bronze and presented them to his unit. One young pilot placed the medallion in a small leather pouch that he wore about his neck.
* Shortly after acquiring the medallions, the pilot's air...

FROM THE CAF PRESIDENT
Dear CAF Members and Supporters;
I ask you to contact your elected representative in the House to voice your opposition to “H.R. 2997, the 21st Century AIRR Act.”
This legislation would privatize the U.S. air traffic control system (ATC) which would be governed by a board of appointees, not the FAA. Unfortunately, the balance of this board weighs heavily in favor of the airlines, who strongly support this bill.
As you may have read earlier this month, we joined our colleagues in the business and sport aviation community to vigorously oppose this bill. Click here t...
