Remembering Dan Fordice Warbird Pilot and Patriot

Dallas, Texas (May 12, 2026)- The Commemorative Air Force is deeply saddened by the loss of Dan Fordice, a valued CAF member, who was currently serving on the General Staff (our Board of Directors), a passionate warbird pilot, and a lifelong advocate for American veterans and military history.

Dan Fordice stands alongside his privately owned P-51C Mustang Charlotte’s Chariot, a rare World War II fighter aircraft he proudly flew and shared with aviation enthusiasts across the country.

Dan lived a remarkable life defined by service, faith, patriotism, and an unwavering commitment to honoring those who wore the uniform of the United States. A veteran himself, Dan served in both the U.S. Army and the Mississippi Army National Guard before dedicating decades to preserving the stories and aircraft of America’s Greatest Generation and supporting veterans from every era that followed.

As founder of the Southern Heritage Air Foundation, Dan worked tirelessly to preserve the personal histories of World War II veterans, ensuring their sacrifices would never be forgotten. Through oral history projects, museum exhibits, and living history experiences, he gave voice to countless veterans who believed nobody cared about their stories. He often said that preserving these memories was “vitally important” because history must be remembered and shared with future generations.

Dan’s heart for service extended far beyond aviation history. In 2013, he founded the Warrior Bonfire Program to support post-9/11 Purple Heart veterans on their lifelong journey of healing and recovery. His compassion for wounded veterans was deeply personal, rooted in the belief that America owes a lasting debt to those who answered the nation’s call.

Within the CAF, Dan was known for his larger-than-life personality, generous spirit, sharp wit, and ability to inspire those around him. Whether sharing stories in a hangar, mentoring younger members, or flying one of his beloved warbirds, he carried himself with humility, conviction, and joy. He believed these aircraft were not simply machines, but powerful tools for education, remembrance, and honoring freedom.

Dan Fordice leaves behind a tremendous legacy—not only in the aircraft he preserved, or the organizations he helped build, but also in the countless lives he touched through kindness, leadership, and faith.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Ann Claire, his family, friends, and the many veterans, aviators, and CAF members who were proud to know him.

Blue skies and tailwinds, Dan. We will continue the mission you cared for so deeply.

Information regarding Dan Fordice’s passing is still developing. Out of respect for Dan, his family, and those closest to him, we ask our members and friends not to speculate about the circumstances surrounding the crash. At this time, we can only confirm that Dan was involved in a fatal accident while flying in his P-51 Mustang. As additional verified information becomes available, it will be shared through the appropriate channels.
