Henry B. Tippie National Aviation Education Center holds Ceremony for 2024 J-3 Cub Interns
Dallas, TX (May 8, 2024)- The Henry B. Tippie National Aviation Education Center (NAEC) celebrated the graduation of seven high school interns from the J-3 Cub project. The internship, is a way for the students to discover and continue exploring their love for avation. Over the past school year the students had the opportunity of getting invaluable hands-on experience in aircraft construction thanks to Noel Mareno, and the NAEC education team.
After the students were chosen for the J-3 Cub Project, they got the chance to hone in on their skills in aviation mechanics and engineering. The interns worked for months on construction of a J-3 Cub aircraft. They also got to shadow the amazing staff and volunteers from the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) that were working on B-29 FIFI and B-24 *Diamond Lil. *
In addition to their primary project, the interns were treated to a diverse array of learning experiences. They had the privilege of attending sessions led by guest speakers representing various aviation vocations, enriching their understanding of the industry and its myriad career paths. Furthermore, each student had the opportunity to take flight in a T-34 aircraft, experiencing firsthand the thrill of flying in these unique aircraft.
Reflecting on their journey, the interns expressed gratitude for the mentorship provided by Mareno and the NAEC education team. They highlighted the invaluable lessons learned, not only in technical aspects but also in teamwork, perseverance, and determination.
"I am so thankful for this internship because it has taught me valuable lessons for both my career and my personal life" remarked one of the interns. "This place has become like a third home to me and I plan to continue to volunteer with the CAF and NAEC while I pursue a career in aviation."
The graduation ceremony served as a culmination of the interns' hard work and dedication throughout the year. Family members, educators, and staff gathered to commemorate this significant milestone in the students' academic and professional journeys.
