The Return of The D-Day Wing

Letter from the CAF President Hank Coates

July 11, 2019, Dallas - As you know, last month two aircraft from the Commemorative Air Force (CAF), the C-47 That’s All, Brother and the C-53 D-Day Doll, traveled to Europe to participate in the commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of D-Day. We were privileged to join with many other aircraft from around the world to honor the sacrifice of so many in the war against tyranny.

It has been such an amazing journey to get to this point, from the discovery of That’s All, Brother in a boneyard in Wisconsin, to both aircraft flying over the beaches of Normandy. We couldn’t have done any of this without your support. Thank you for making this program possible! We wanted to take a moment to celebrate this accomplishment, as well as share some of the amazing images from the trip.

Both aircraft will be stopping at cities across the country and attending events.

I hope you will be able to join us at one of these events and have the opportunity to see these incredible aircraft in person. If you are able to see That's All, Brother, there are some artifacts and items that you will want to be sure to see when you tour the aircraft.

Here are some images of the must see items.

We have some exciting programs coming up in the next two years and hope you continue to support our mission and efforts. Here are a few examples of things to look forward to:

  • July 24, 2019 - The premier of the CAF RISE ABOVE: WASP film at EAA AirVenture. This dynamic film about Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) will travel the country inspiring young people as part of our CAF RISE ABOVE educational outreach program.
  • May 8, 2020 – Aircraft from across North America, including more than 20 CAF aircraft, will fly over the National Mall in Washington D.C. as the Arsenal of Democracy WWII Flyover to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe.
  • Late 2020 - The opening of the Henry B. Tippie National Aviation Education Center located at Dallas Executive Airport. Using history to teach aviation science, this center will impact students in the North Texas area, as well as test and deploy educational programs to our units across the country.

Please watch the CAF website for more information in the upcoming months for these and other exciting activities.

Thank you again for your support of the CAF. We would not be able to fulfill our mission to educate, inspire, and honor without the help of friends like you.
