2023 Defenders of Liberty Airshow Recap

Bossier City, Louisiana (March 31, 2023) - Last weekend, several CAF Units and members attended the Defenders of Liberty Airshow at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, Louisiana. The airshow always brings together both vintage and new military aircraft in a way that highlights the vast achievements of American airpower through the years.

CAF aircraft C-47 That’s All, Brother, B-25J Yellow Rose, and PBJ Devil Dog brought history to life by allowing guests to tour the warbirds and see them fly. The D-Day C-47 was able to take up some rare passengers, the Red Bull Air Force, for a thrilling coordinated aerial jump demonstration.

CAF RISE ABOVE, the three-fold educational outreach program, engaged visitors with the history and legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen and Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP). The P-51C Mustang Tuskegee Airmen and their traveling exhibit trailer were at the show inspiring children and adults alike with stories of courage and perseverance. They even had a special guest volunteering, CAF Cadet Gabriel Carothers. Carothers is currently the youngest Black licensed pilot in New Mexico.

Not only were CAF aircraft in attendance - providing services on the ramp were the CAF Marshalling Detachment and CAF Flightline Services Detachment and providing exciting pyrotechnics were the CAF Blastards Detachament.

About the Defenders of Liberty Airshow

Held for the first time in 1933, the Barksdale Defenders of Liberty Air Show is a full-weekend spectacular featuring displays of the latest, as well as historic, military, and civilian aircraft and other related performers.

The Barksdale Defender of Liberty Air Show serves to enhance public awareness of U.S. Air Force capabilities and the Barksdale AFB mission through static displays and aerobatic performances. Likewise, it allows Shreveport-Bossier City to showcase Louisiana as the home of the B-52, pay tribute to service members, and support the recruiting arm of the United States Armed Forces.
