CAF AirPower History Tour has an Epic Stop in Wyoming

Cheyenne, WY (August 23,2024) - The Commemorative Air Force’s AirPower History Tour is in full swing and coming across the country. This tour, led by the B-29/B-24 Squadron, features legendary aircraft such as the B-29 FIFI, the AT-6 Nella, the C-45 Expediter, and many others from several CAF Units and Sponsor Groups.

Crowds flock to the tour stops, eager to purchase rides and take cockpit tours of their favorite airplanes. In a recent tour stop in Cheyenne, Wyoming, the crew had the opportunity to meet some distinguished aviation fans. Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon visited the B-29 FIFI and received a full cockpit tour from the B-29/B-24 crew.

Unleaded Fuel

At the Wyoming Aviation Heritage Festival Aug 14-18, Governor Gordon issued a proclamation citing the importance of Wyoming’s deep aviation heritage. In recognition of the CAF’s attendance, the volunteer crew was treated to a tour of the Quebec 1 missile alert station and a steak dinner on Tuesday. There was also a reception at the Governor’s Residence on Friday evening in appreciation of the CAF attending the event.

It was not just an event; it was a moment of great honor for the entire team. CAF Col, WASP Squadron Unit Leader, and Wyoming resident, Ellie Dana, spoke on behalf of the CAF. She explained the CAF and its commitment to safety by saying, “These folks are all performing at a required professional level, as volunteers, appearing here and elsewhere to honor those that have come before us, as well as inspire others to be part of the future of aviation. And, of course, we love these planes and are actively engaged in preserving these historic treasures. For each of us who are here, there are hundreds in the background making this possible.”

It's not just the B-29/B-24 crew that makes the tour happen. It's a community effort. Many people, from volunteers to aircraft crews and tour managers, work tirelessly behind the scenes. Their collaborative effort, their shared passion for aviation, is what ensures the success of these tour stops and the maintenance of the aircraft.
