D-Day Wing Normandy Update

Lat updated February 18, 2019 - Many have been asking for an update on C-47 That’s All, Brother and C-53 D-Day Doll’s trip to Normandy. If this is the first you are hearing about this event, then here is an article from June 2018 to read up on the trip. Click here to read June Dispatch

Here are some of the most commonly asked questions with answers:

Q: Can people sign up for a CAF tour to Normandy? A: The CAF partnered with with Stephen Ambrose Historical Tours for a tour group of 70 individuals that is going to England and France. This tour is completely booked. Names still are being added to a wait list. You can find out more information about that tour Click Here.

Q: Can I go to Europe and volunteer to help the CAF? A: The two units going (Central Texas Wing and Inland Empire Wing are working out a volunteer schedule. The top priorities these units need help with are fundraising and getting the aircraft and aircrews ready to go. As far as while in Europe, details about ground tours, selling merchandise sales, etc. are still being worked on. The CAF French Wing is providing HUGE assistance as far as helping on the ground with volunteers, however if there is a need for more help, we will certainly be asking as the event gets closer.

Q: What events are going on at Normandy and Duxford? The aircraft will be in Duxford at the Imperial War Museum on June 4 and June 5. The aircraft will fly across the English Channel to Normandy, France on June 5. On June 7 and June 8, the aircraft will be at the Caen – Carpiquet Airport. To see the aircraft in Duxford or Caen, you will need to buy a ticket. Click here for the link to buy event tickets.

There will be dozens of other events going on from concerts, reenactments and memorials during the month of June. Go to this website , which seems to offer a pretty good explanation of what events will be going on in the area.

**Q: Can I contribute or donate to the CAF D-Day Wing? ** YES, this trip is really an epic adventure and the CAF is determined to be sure that both aircraft and crew are able to go to Normandy for this important event to represent the Commemorative Air Force. Q: Will the aircraft be stopping anywhere in the U.S. for tours before leaving for Europe? Yes, both aircraft will be making stops in the U.S. before departing from Oxford, CT in mid-May. Here is a list of both aircraft tours from March to May.

Q: Will I be able to follow the activities of the CAF D-Day Wing online? A: We are looking into every possibility for our members and fans to follow this trip to Europe. Facebook is likely going to be the best place to watch some of the live. We will do our best to let you know if any live TV or web feeds become available. In addition, we will have photographers and videographers on the ground to document the trip as well.
