Iconic B-29 Superfortress FIFI Returns to the Skies After Major Repairs

DALLAS, Texas (July 1, 2025) – The Commemorative Air Force (CAF) announced this week that FIFI, one of only two airworthy B-29 Superfortresses in the world, has successfully returned to flight after undergoing significant engine repairs. The WWII-era bomber will rejoin the AirPower History Tour, giving aviation enthusiasts across the country a rare chance to experience a living piece of American history.

“We’re extremely grateful for the many supporters who have helped FIFI return to the skies where she belongs,” said David Oliver, CAF President/CEO. “Their generous support helps ensure the public can continue to interact with, tour, and even ride this historic aircraft that played such a pivotal role in shaping American and world history.”

The return to flight comes after a months-long project that included having to pull of two of the engines and send them from Texas to California for repairs. The CAF called on the warbird community and aviation supporters to help raise $100,000 to help with the exorbitant costs associated with keeping this aircraft flying. The campaign, which runs through July 4, has raised over $80,000 to date.

Now that the aircraft is flying, aircrews will work on prepping to go on tour with the new engines. If all goes well, the aircraft will resume the AirPower History tour schedule in a few weeks. Upcoming stops include cities in Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma.
