Texas Historical Commission Hosts Webinar on Preserving History with Conservation Expert

Austin, TX (February 25, 2025) – The Texas Historical Commission (THC) https://thc.texas.gov is a state agency dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of Texas— they provide valuable resources to anyone affiliated with historic preservation and exhibition. In an upcoming webinar, history enthusiasts, collectors, and caretakers of memorabilia will have a unique opportunity to learn how to safeguard their cherished items for future generations.

On March 6, 2025, the THC will host “Saving Your Stuff: An Introduction to Preserving the Things You Value,” a special presentation by Megan Brakob Narvey, Outreach Conservator at the Minnesota Historical Society. This engaging session will provide essential knowledge for those responsible for family heirlooms, historic memorabilia, artwork, and archival documents.

What You’ll Learn:
• The ten agents of deterioration—the primary threats to historical objects
• Practical preservation techniques to protect your valuables
• Guidance for volunteers at museums and historical sites, collectors, and newcomers to preservation
• A Q&A session with expert recommendations for further resources

“CAF volunteers work tirelessly to keep history alive through the restoration and flight of warbirds; we recognize that history isn’t just found in museums or airfields—it’s in the keepsakes, documents, and heirlooms we hold dear,” said Leah Block, Vice President of Marketing. “I think this webinar will have great information for participants with the tools to handle CAF artifacts or personal memorabilia.”
