The CAF Minnesota Wing is Sponsoring the "R&R on the Ramp" Event to Support Veterans

(South St. Paul, MN, September 18, 2024)- The CAF Minnesota Wing is proud to sponsor the upcoming "R&R on the Ramp" event, hosted by Project Got Your Back, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting veterans and their families. This unique event will challenge participants to pull the iconic B-25 bomber Miss Mitchell.

R&R on the Ramp will occur on September 21 at the CAF Minnesota Wing hangar (Fleming Field, 310 Airport Rd, South St Paul, MN, 55075). Teams will compete to see who can pull the B-25 Miss Mitchell the fastest. Alongside the aircraft pull, teams will also vie to raise the most funds to support veterans through Project Got Your Back. Each team of four to six participants must meet a minimum fundraising goal of $1,000.

Pulling such a massive aircraft might seem impossible, but Paul Davis, executive director of Project Got Your Back, says it's achievable: “When you think of a B-25, you think of this monstrous airplane, and it is when you see it. But believe it or not, a team of 4-6 can pull it with some effort.”

The CAF Minnesota Wing is equally enthusiastic about partnering with Project Got Your Back. When asked about the unit’s involvement, CAF member Amy Lauria explained, “We've been working with Delta Airlines here in Minneapolis on some Veterans Day events, and our local contact put us in touch. Once they started the conversation, ‘Do you want to give this a try?’, we were in! Project Got Your Back has been wonderful to work with, and we're grateful for the partnership with them and Delta Airlines.”

Lauria also noted that the missions of Project Got Your Back and the CAF Minnesota Wing align closely, particularly in their shared goal of providing veterans and their families with better resources and opportunities, especially in the Twin Cities. “With many of our members being veterans, it's a great tie-in. Mostly, it’s about giving back in another way to the veteran community in the Twin Cities and beyond. Their focus is veteran well-being and connection, which resonates with our members,” Lauria added.

Excitement is building among the public and participating teams for the big pull. So far, both Project Got Your Back, and the CAF Minnesota Wing have only conducted trial runs to test how many people it takes to move the aircraft. Organizers are eager to see the teams compete and hope to make this an annual event.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on September 21. For more information on R&R on the Ramp, Click Here
