One of the World's Rarest Flying B-24s Is Airborne Again
Dallas, TX (August 4, 2026) – The unmistakable sound of four Pratt & Whitney engines echoed across the Texas sky once again as B-24 Diamond Lil returned to flight for the first time since April 2024. After more than two years of meticulous maintenance and thousands of volunteer hours, one of the world's rarest flying B-24 Liberators is back in the air.
During routine inspections, crews discovered weather-related damage to the bomber's control surfaces. Rather than risk the aircraft, volunteers undertook the painstaking task of replacing Diamond Lil's intricate flight control cables and completing other critical maintenance to ensure she can continue flying safely for future generations.
On August 3, 2026, all that hard work, dedication, and countless volunteer hours paid off as Diamond Lil took flight for the first time in more than two years. The roar of her engines echoed across the skies once again, marking a major milestone in her restoration and fueling excitement throughout the aviation community. The successful flight is another important step toward returning the legendary bomber to the CAF AirPower History Tour.
Where Will Diamond Lil Fly Next?
At the moment, Diamond Lil’s first stop back on the AirPower History Tour is expected to be in Fayetteville, Arkansas, at the end of August. This information is subject to change as testing and final preparations continue.

While a few more test flights and final preparations remain before Diamond Lil is ready to rejoin B-29 FIFI and the rest of the AirPower History Tour, enthusiasm is already heightened. After the Squadron shared news of the flight on social media, supporters flooded the comments with excitement. One fan wrote, "Best news!!!! We are thrilled she is up in the air again!”
